What real pashmina actually is

Pashmina is the winter undercoat of the Himalayan mountain goat, combed each spring and hand-processed into one of the finest natural fibers in the world. Most “pashmina” sold in the US is viscose or a heavy cashmere blend. Ours is the real article, and we document it.

Fiber Diameter

≤ 16.5 µm

Finer than standard cashmere; the source of the signature drape and warmth.

Source Altitude

3,500 m +

High-altitude herds in the Himalayan belt. Cold climate, dense undercoat.

Production

Handloomed

Woven on traditional looms by Kathmandu Valley artisans.

Composition

100% / 70-30

Pure pashmina, or pashmina-silk blends for structure and sheen. Labeled honestly, always.

The problem with buying pashmina through importers

Margin stacking

By the time a shawl passes through an exporter, an importer, and a distributor, your landed cost has doubled and your margin belongs to someone else. We buy at the loom and sell to you. One step.

Authenticity risk

Mislabeled fiber is the industry’s open secret. We verify composition at the source, work with certified producers, and can supply documentation with every order, so what’s on your label is what’s in the weave.

No eyes on the ground

Most US buyers have never seen their supplier’s workshop. We live here. Every batch is inspected in person in Kathmandu before it ships, and problems get solved in the same room they happen in.

From first email to landed inventory

We stock select premium shops on consignment. No upfront cost, no inventory risk, no reason not to try the product on your shelves.

Step 1

Line sheet & samples

Request the current line sheet with styles, colorways, compositions, and wholesale pricing. Sample sets ship to the US so you can put the product in your hands first.

Step 2

Pick colors & volume

Choose your colorways and quantities. No upfront payment, everything ships on consignment: you set your retail price and pay us after pieces sell.

Step 3

Production & QC

Your order is woven, dyed, and finished in the Kathmandu Valley. We inspect every batch in person before it’s packed, with photo documentation on request.

Step 4

Ship & restock

Typical lead time of 3 to 5 weeks to the US, including customs. Reorders of established styles move faster. Communication stays in your time zone.

An American in Kathmandu

The Himalayan Connection is run by Malcolm, an American based in Nepal since 2021. Living here full-time means supplier relationships built in person over years, quality checks done by hand, and a partner who understands both sides of this trade: how things work in Kathmandu, and what US buyers expect.

That’s the connection in the name. Not a sourcing agent you’ve never met, not a trading company forwarding your emails. One person accountable to you, standing between the loom and your loading dock.
